Getting Ready for Autumn

It is now autumn! When you think of fall you want to think of sweaters, soups, colorful leaves, and hot cocoa. Not murky water. The best way to prevent that thought from even entering your mind is by preparing your water garden for fall. You can prepare by including these few things to your water garden.

• Leaf Net
• Cold Water Fish Food
• Aerators
• Cold Water Beneficial Bacteria
• Pond heaters
• Skimmer nets 
• Thermometers

Adding a leaf net to your water garden blocks the leaves form getting into your wg (obviously😏). The leaves would decompose and turn your water an murky brown color, which not only do you not enjoy but your fish don't either. Decaying leaves release toxic gases which can overwhelm your fish, even causing death. Cold Water Fish Food is made specifically for your fish as they get ready for hibernation, plus it doesn't dissolve and pollute the water. Aerators help to add oxygen to the pond which benefits the environment and it keeps some of the water surface ice-free. Heaters can keep an opening in the ice too. Cold Water Bacteria keeps the water clear, removes sludge, uneaten fish food, and fish waste.

Hibiscus

It's still summer so treat it like it is! We don't have to store our water gardens away. Adding some bright plants is a great way to keep that summer look in your yard. Hibiscus is the perfect contender because it's flowers are just plain gorgeous. They look like they came straight from Hawaii. This plant is famed for having the reddest flowers in the plant kingdom. They can grow up to 6 feet.  Hibiscus make a wonderful water plant and are hardy so they will come back after the winter. Come by NBWG to get your pop of summer.

Shubunkins

These fish add beautiful color to your water feature. They have black, orange, red, white, and a sky-blue body. It looks like a valuable watercolor painting. Shubunkins have the typical comet body shape. Another great feature about these fish is that they can survive the sweltering heat of the summer and the freezing cold of the winter. That defenantly makes the perfect fish for Missouri, they can handle our ever-changing weather.

After being in the water garden business for over 20 years we have been able to determine how to make your water garden go POW! MO State Fair

We are at the MO State Fair! 

Come visit our booth in front of the main ticket gate. We also have displays at the Floriculture building and the MO DOT Highway Gardens (the fish). We lots of plants and fish available. We also have pond products.

 Come in Sunday, August 23rd for 1/2 Price Water Plants.

at the MO State Fair

State Fair

The time as finally come! The Missouri State Fair begins starts August 13th and ends the 23rd. Come visit our booth that is in front of the main ticket gate "Centennial Gate" and the East side of the Coliseum, the tallest building in the fair grounds. We have a beautiful gazebo and gorgeous waterfalls at our booth. There are also a lot of our water plants at the fair. If you don't want to have to carry around a plant all day you can reserve your water plant and pick it up at the end of the day. Now is a great time to get the last of our tropical waterlilies so hurry before we run out. On Thur the 13th (tomorrow) we have a sale, $2.00 for 2 water hyacinth and/or water lettuce.  We also have some of our fish at the fair, lots of butterfly koi. If you like any of these fish you can reserve them and pick them up at the end of the state fair (the 23rd). We have our larger fish (koi and butterfly koi) at the MO DOT Highway Gardens and you can reserve these too. At the Floriculture building we have a newly installed 8 foot pondless waterfall. We have pond products also avaliable at our booth, such as beneficial bacteria, fish food, ect. We will also have patio ponds at our booth and if your mention the Sale you will get 20% off the Mini Patio Ponds but you can only get this sale if you mention it.  Now, as a reminder we will be closed Aug 14th, 15th, 21st, and 22nd due to the fair so come see us there! We want to let you now that there is a drawing for $200 worth of fish and water plants but you must enter at the State Fair to be eligible.
