NBWG

Plants-Most hardy waterlilies are beginning to go dormant. As leaves turn yellow and then brown it's good to remove them,(and your marginals too). Leaving them to stay in the pond and just decay can release excessive nutrients (the ones you've been trying to get rid of) that can cause algae problems. Algae can be controlled with algaecides if need be.

Special - 8oz. Algeacide 20% off

Fish  -  If water temp. still warm, Still okay to Feed. Remember though to cut back on the amount of food.  Also, as the temp drops below 65 degrees its good to switch to Cold Water Fish Food. This better prepares Fish for their hybrination. Once water temperture gets below 55 degrees stop feeding your fish alltogther till spring.

Ready for Fall?

NBGW

Ponds

Fall is a wonderful time of year; cooler temperatures, leaves start to turn a multitude of colors-it's dazzling. Remember though, after the leaves awed you with their beautiful colors, they fall to the ground and your pond can act like a magnet for those leaves. Your skimmer can only do so much. And you, of course, emptying your skimmer or scooping out leaves. Left to their own, leaves can begin to decay in your water garden, releasing gases and stains, so much so it can overwhelm your fish and even sicken or kill them. A very good solution is a protection pond netting, stretched over the pond and anchored well on the outside. These nets can keep those pesky leaves out, significantly reducing your pond's maintenance. We like to use black 1/2" PVC pipe, anchored like a green house hoop. Come pick up your fall supplies. Nets come in three sizes; 7x10, 14x20, and 28x30.

Visit Us at the Missouri State Fair

NBWG Newsletter

Missouri State Fair
The event that signifies the end of summer has arrived, the Missouri State Fair. As part of that tradition Nature's Beauty Watergardens is inviting all to experience the tranquility and beauty of several different water features. Come and visit us in front of the Coliseum, as you enter the main gate. There you will find an 8x11 eco-pond with three streams and falls leading to the pond.  Compare these to two additional systems. One a smaller four foot pondless stream and falls that can be tucked into many areas of your landscaping. The other, another pondless, has two longer streams with falls that adds a larger impact in the yard, perhaps around a deck or patio.  We also have a 6x8 eco-pond  in the cooled Floriculture building, complete with colorful fish and flora.  The large water system at the Highway Gardens is home to Nature's Beauty Watergarden's variety of larger fish and plants for display. Experience what impact a serious water feature can add to your landscape.

Water plants will be available for sale at our main booth at the entrance. Our store will be closed during these two weekends, but items are available at the fair with fair discounts!  You are welcome to give Steve a call at 660-229-3777.   Don't miss the event of the summer!

Plants
Well we are still deep in the oh so joyous summer heat so now is the time to provide your fish with much needed shade. If your water garden is in direct sunlight, the water may get excessively warm, sticking your fish in the Sahara Desert. But don't worry, this is an easily solvable problem. All you must do is add some plants to your water garden. We have many large leaved tropical water lilies and lotus (aka sun umbrellas). Floating plants, such as water hyacinth and water lettuce, can also help provide the much needed shade for your fish. They also relieve the water from excess nutrients, helping clarify your water. Quick tip: if you have a skimmer and your floating plants are constantly getting caught in it, stick your floaters in a hula hoop. Just make sure it isn't a heavy hula hoop, otherwise it will be the Titanic all over again.

Sale: Come In and Mention This Offer to Receive Your Choice of 3 Water Hyacinths Free
or 3 Water Lettuce Free!  ;Also the Night Blooming Tropical Water Lily Brazos White 25% off!

  • Eat Excessive Algae
  • Help Create a Balanced Ecosystem
  • Are Colorful

Ponds
Another problem this extreme heat is causing is the lack of oxygen in our ponds. High temperatures can make oxygen levels go down. This is very bad for your fish because they need this oxygen to breathe. In extreme cases fish can even die because of low oxygen levels. But don't worry, this is an easy fix. Good flowing waterfalls add oxygen to the pond, along with fountain pumps, and pond aerators.
