Ready for Fall?

NBGW

Ponds

Fall is a wonderful time of year; cooler temperatures, leaves start to turn a multitude of colors-it's dazzling. Remember though, after the leaves awed you with their beautiful colors, they fall to the ground and your pond can act like a magnet for those leaves. Your skimmer can only do so much. And you, of course, emptying your skimmer or scooping out leaves. Left to their own, leaves can begin to decay in your water garden, releasing gases and stains, so much so it can overwhelm your fish and even sicken or kill them. A very good solution is a protection pond netting, stretched over the pond and anchored well on the outside. These nets can keep those pesky leaves out, significantly reducing your pond's maintenance. We like to use black 1/2" PVC pipe, anchored like a green house hoop. Come pick up your fall supplies. Nets come in three sizes; 7x10, 14x20, and 28x30.

Plants
Don't forget to trim back and remove any dying foliage to prevent their decaying into the water. The more they decay, the more nutrients release, thus the more algae in your pond. If your pond does suffer from algae control it with Algaecides.
