Summer
You're ready to splash into summer but are your fish ready? With these helpful tips from Aquascape Inc. your fish can enjoy summer too.Tip 1: Warm water has a low capacity for holding oxygen so you can add oxygen to your pond by placing an aerator or AquaForce® pump in your pond. You can also install a fountain with a pump if your pond doesn’t have a waterfall or stream built in.
Tip 2: If you feed your fish, feed them in the morning and be careful not to overfeed. Uneaten food decays faster in warmer water and can pollute the pond.
Tip 3: Be sure to remove dying leaves and flowers before they have a chance to decay in the warmer water.
Tip 4: Be extra cautious when using algaecides in warmer temperatures as the sudden death of algae will consume a large amount of available oxygen.

A great way to protect your fish from the sunlight is to provide the fish with the shade from floating plants. Hyacinths are an amazing floating water plant to do this. Their roots dangle in the water absorbing nutrients from the water. Because of this they work as excellent filters. Since they remove nutrients straight from the water instead of lower down where the majority of water plants are located they provide a more substantial filtering.
