Plants:

As promised our tropical water lilies will continued to be featured. This week's feature lily is the King of Siam. If you can't tell from the name, this water lily will be the king of your water feature. It's flowers offer a bright blue variety to other, less noticeable colors. This is a lily that is sure to pop, catching the eye of all of your guests. It has leaves with some slight brown speckles on them, which can get 6" to 12" in diameter. The flowers are double star shaped and can get up to 8" across. They even have a slight fragrance to them, making them the ideal water lily. The King of Siam has a very unique look to them, making them stand out among other lilies. They truly are the king of tropical lilies.

Fish:

Koi, the fish that seem to make up the water garden industry. What makes them so special? Koi are some of the most colorful fish out there. And they don't just come in one variety, but a countless array of colors. Koi also are a very hardy fish, making them perfect for water gardens because they can withstand Missouri winters. Koi are actually a colored carp (those ugly brown fish in lakes). They were originally bred in China during the 1820s but the world was not made aware of these colorful varieties of carp until 1914. Since then there have been many more variations bred, thus why there are so many different colors of koi. Koi come to two predominant types: standard fin and butterfly fin. Butterfly koi have long, flowing fins, where as standard fin have shorter fins. Koi are also a type of fish that seems to have more noticeable personalities. Yes, I just said fish have personalities. As you feed your fish they really become your pets and we have customers that swear each fish has their very own personality. Koi are one of the best types of fish for your water garden, and soon you'll realize why we all love them so much.
